Che cosa vuoi che il Signore faccia per te?

Signore, che io recuperi la vista. (Luca 18:41)

Qual è la cosa che non solo ti disturba, ma ti fa anche essere un disturbo per gli altri? Si tratta sempre di qualcosa che non puoi risolvere da solo. “Essi lo sgridavano, perché tacesse, ma lui gridava più forte.” Continua ad insistere fino a che non ti troverai faccia a faccia con il Signore; non farti un idolo del buon senso. Quando Gesù ci domanda quale azione vogliamo che stiamo affrontando, ricordiamoci che Egli non opera secondo il buon senso, ma per vie soprannaturali. Stiamo attenti a non stabilire dei limiti al Signore rammentandoci le opere che ammettiamo Egli abbia fatto per noi nel passato, ma dicendo riguardo al presente: “In questa data cosa io non sono mai riuscito e mai riuscirò”, e di conseguenza non chiedendo a Dio ciò che vogliamo, perché “chiederglielo è ridicolo”. Invece sono proprio le cose impossibili quelle che dobbiamo chiedere; se non sono impossibili, allora non sono veramente cose che ci disturbano e ci angosciano. Dio farà per noi l’assolutamente impossibile. Quell’uomo recuperò la vista. Per te l’impossibile è rappresentato dalla tua identificazione con il Signore, un’identificazione tale che non vi sia in te più nulla del vecchio uomo. Egli lo farà se glielo chiederai. Ma devi arrivare a credere alla Sua onnipotenza; la fede non è credere alle parole di Gesù, ma a Lui stesso. Se ci limiteremo soltanto a considerare quello che Egli dice, non crederemo mai. Ma quando finalmente scorgiamo Gesù, Lo vediamo fare l’impossibile con le sue radici nell’ostinata ottusità del nostro cuore, nel fatto che non vogliamo credere, non vogliamo fare il passo decisivo, ma preferiamo continuare ad angustiarci.

What is the thing that not only disturbs you but makes you a disturbance? It is always something you cannot deal with yourself. "They rebuked him that he should hold his peace . . . but he cried so much the more." Persist in the disturbance until you get face to face with the Lord Himself; do not deify common sense. When Jesus asks us what we want Him to do for us in regard to the incredible thing with which we are faced, remember that He does not work in common-sense ways, but in supernatural ways. Watch how we limit the Lord by remembering what we have all owed Him to do for us in the past: I always failed there, and I always shall; consequently, we do not ask for what we want. "It is ridiculous to ask God to do this." If it is an impossibility, it is the thing we have to ask. If it is not an impossible thing, it is not a real disturbance. God will do the absolutely impossible. This man received his sight. The most impossible thing to you is that you should be so identified with the Lord that there is nothing of the old life left. He will do it if you ask Him. But you have to come to the place where you believe Him to be Almighty. Faith is not in what Jesus says but in Himself; if we only look at what He says we shall never believe. When once we see Jesus, He does the impossible thing as natural y as breathing. Our agony comes through the wilful stupidity of our own heart. We won't believe, we won't cut the shore line, we prefer to worry on.
